Hi friends,
It's the season of Christmas. And we put up Christmas decorations. Although I like Christmas decorations, I've not been interested in putting up decorations at home for the past many years. Now that I'm married, my wife and I decided to put up Christmas decorations around the house. This was more fun than I expected. And the house definitely feels more cheery and pleasant to be in.
Here are the links I want to share this week:
1. New blog post — Towers of Unity
Every human attempt at unity are all towers of Babel — tall vain monuments of unity in a world divided by language, caste, religion, or ethnicity.
But the grand finale of the redemptive plan of God sees the coming together of all humanity — united in worship. A true unity, unlike the Babel projects. And the church is now the trailer of that great future hope.
2. Cool YouTube video: Theme System
This is the time of the year when many of us might be thinking about resolutions for the new year. Here is an alternative to the traditional New Year’s Resolutions — having a yearly theme. This is a recommendation by the YouTuber CGP Grey and over the past one year I’ve found having a theme was a lot more helpful than having resolutions. This video is a good introduction to get started.
Basically, a theme is a guiding phrase for what you want the coming year to be about. I find themes to be better than resolutions because they are useful phrases or words that stick in your mind longer. For example, my theme for 2023 was Rhythms of Grace and every time I thought of the phrase, I was reminded that my focus for the year was to build and maintain habits of grace (Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship).
3. Helpful exercise: 10 Questions for the New Year
Here’s a helpful resource from Desiring God that can help you prepare for the coming new year. Even if you do not follow through on all your answers for the questions, the process of thinking through these questions is still highly useful.
That’s all for this week, folks!
Cheers,
Caleb
