A return to writing [Being Indian and Christian #7]
Thoughts on Amritpal Singh and how we can see traces of the gospel
Hi friends,
It has been more than 3 months since I last sent out a newsletter. I apologise for the delay in restarting the newsletter. The technical issues related to switching over from Revue were much more complex than I initially estimated. After a lot of confusion during which I even thought I lost all my website data, I was able to settle on a temporary solution for the website. For the newsletter I picked Substack and I think I will stick with it for a considerable amount of time.
Here are the links I want to share this week
I finally restarted writing and made some reflections on how the news on Amritpal Singh and his story show us the need for the gospel in Punjab. Amritpal preached a return to a purer form of religion, he promised deliverance from drug addiction, and he gave the youth a large vision to live for. His diagnosis of what ails Punjab was right. Punjabis, just like the rest of us, need true religion, they need deliverance from addictions, and they need a large vision to live for. But the solution offered by Amritpal was lacking. Only Jesus offers the true solution.
I’ve always wanted to be someone who reads the newspaper regularly. However, I often miss out on many days. Recently I found out about a podcast, 3 Things by the Indian Express, which gives 3 top stories for the day along with a useful commentary on those issues. If you’re interested in being up to date with the news and would like to listen to it rather than read it, this is an excellent podcast.
That’s it for this edition, folks! See you next week!
Cheers,
Caleb
